Difficult from Long Play by Original Pairs
Difficult opens off side two with an isolated staccato guitar which leaves the 60s behind and recalls reggae, rock fusions of the new wave era. The band comes in and things get funky with a hard, staggered riff played in unison. Wait, are those wolves howling in the distance? Enter the singer “feeling so lonely, watching you only, making your way through the night” and we are off on a voyeuristic chase after an elusive subject. Whether this song is about a woman, a she-wolf or simply an errant family pet, isn’t clear in any one’s mind, but one thing is certain – she's “difficult”! The chorus breaks into a synth driven new wave rock form and then finishes with a fuzz guitar, clav. freak out that can only be described as progressive, garage mayhem!

Original Pairs, are Toronto- based rock revivalists channeling garage, rockabilly psychedelia through a dark poetic filter. The group consists of Andrew Frontini on lead vocals and guitar, Lisa Logan on drums, Lynda Kraar on bass and Jon Loewen on keys. “Natural State” explores the full range of OP's musical influences wrapping them around a solid core of dark Americana.
