Love Collision from Long Play by Original Pairs
Love Collison dives into 60s garage rock territory to chronicle the traumatic aftermath of a reckless love affair. A chugging base line, cheesy organ shots and tremolo laden guitar chords build up to the chorus that finds the singer “Love sick and blue in the ICU”. A fuzz laden guitar solo morphs into a psychedelic sound scape of splintering glass and metal as the singer struggles to free himself, “entangled in the wreckage of a love collision”. With a melodic structure that fuses Them’s “Gloria” to the Monkey’s “I’m not your Steeping Stone”, “Love Collison” is not shy about its roots, but manages to offer up a few surprises, including a twisted jazz outro.
