These are new recordings of three old songs that I wrote between 1994 and 1996.
'Ginger' was one of the early songs I recorded after my brother and I bought a Fostex 4 track in 1996. After I started playing live the following year, it became a standard inclusion in my setlists. Of all the songs I was playing at the time, this seemed to be the one that my friends liked the most, and as a result is was often the first song on mix tapes and record label submissions.
I wrote 'M 'Ethyl' Cooper' on a 12 string guitar in early 2015, while staying at my uncle's house in Byron Bay. I originally recorded it on an old, silver faced tape deck, and made a few 4 track versions over the next few years.
Early versions of 'Doll' started to appear in 1994 when I was still recording on tape decks. I have recorded many versions over the years; this one most closely resembles the 4 track recording that appeared on my first album 'Soap, Stickers, Jewels' in 1997.
These were the first three songs on the 'Stickers' section of 'Soap, Stickers, Jewels.' I began re-recording 'Ginger' in Berlin, late 2015, before finishing it back in Melbourne in early 2017. 'M 'Ethyl' Cooper' and 'Doll' were both re-recorded in Melbourne, late 2016, early 2017.
Orphan Train Project is a musical journey that that began thirty years ago in the secluded hills above Adelaide, South Australia. First records were made on busted tape decks on a bedroom floor. Years passed. I lived in different places. All Orphan Train Project songs and recordings can be used under the Creative Commons Attribution licence.
