These are both re-recordings of two Maudlins songs originally recorded to digital eight track in 2001 in the Edgeware Rd, Enmore house. George and I recorded the first versions with little rehearsal and some dubious mic positioning on the drums, so I have always wanted to do Valentine Park and Pyrmont some justice.
I began these versions in Melbourne around 2008, but was never satisfied with the final mixes and never released them. I re-recorded some parts back in Melbourne in 2018 and 2019, and got to the point where I was happy enough to let them go.
The songs have a strong Sydney theme to them; Valentine Park is a park in Parramatta that I used to walk past every day on my way to work. Pyrmont is about driving through the inner city motorways for the first time, over the bridge, between the buildings.
Orphan Train Project is a musical journey that that began thirty years ago in the secluded hills above Adelaide, South Australia. First records were made on busted tape decks on a bedroom floor. Years passed. I lived in different places. All Orphan Train Project songs and recordings can be used under the Creative Commons Attribution licence.
