Man, the places we have to go
To meet these people you know,
Dimmed lights, cracked hands and leather
Just to take it in turns
putting things up our nose
Jack’s sick between sniffs,
through the gaps in the table
a liminal space for acts like these
It sets the tone and we all reminisce
About the times we were worse than this
And David puts on some post-something dirge
Another middle-class hack,
Putting inflections in all the wrong places
I haven’t got the stomach for that
And so ignore it flat-out
Spend some time in the bathroom,
On my own and on my phone
Enjoy the time, make the most
Of the good faith of all my friends
What they don’t know, wont offend them.. much.
And all these genre tropes,
They give me hope
I’ve been underwhelmed for years now
