Heathen Chronicles by Svelsurdus

Svelsurdus is a Black Metal project that was spontaneously formed in December 2021. Inspired by bands from across Europe that pay homage to their fatherland, culture, traditions and pagan history, we, D. (Ovader, ex-Melancholic Journey) and K., decided to create something similar in our own way. The material for Heathen Chronicles was composed in about three weeks during December 2021, with the exception of the lyrics for the final track, which were written in the early months of 2022. Lyrically, the album draws inspiration from significant events and figures from Bulgaria’s pre-Christian past. The name Svelsurdus comes from Thracian mythology and is one of several names of an obscure Thracian deity associated with thunder, lightning and rain. The album was recorded in several home sessions between January and March 2022 in a minimalistic environment. Mixing and mastering were handled by Martin Tsenov at his Fimbulwinter Studio in Iceland. In addition to that, he composed and recorded the opening track, the intro, entirely by himself, which made him part of the creative process as well. The artwork used in the album layout, inspired by the same ideas that shape the lyrics, was hand-drawn by Elvira, who also assisted with the final layout editing. Svelsurdus aims to inspire listeners to reconnect with their roots, embrace their heritage and live in devotion to their homeland. Sincere thanks to everyone who took part in bringing this pagan manifestation to life.
