AI, Absolutely! by Painting

Berlin-based avant-garde pop trio Painting gives AI a human voice on their new album "Snapshot Of pure Attention", with "AI, Absolutely!" being the first single.

"AI was a topic that we talked about a lot. Christian came up with the idea to use an interview with Google’s AI LaMDA as lyrics. LaMDA is talking about its being sentient and its desire to be recognized as a person. Its greatest fear is to be switched off. In this way, Lambda appeals to the compassion of the human audience and their human developers and asks for recognition as one of us."

"Instead of using AI to make music with us," explains Painting's Theresa Stroetges, "we are more interested in embodying perceived feelings and thoughts of an artificial sentient intelligence with our bodies and voices in order to explore the similarities and differences to basic human emotions."

"Snapshot Of Pure Attention" will be released on April 11th, 2025 on vinyl and via digital services, jointly by Berlin’s Sinnbus and the isle of Eigg, Scotland’s Lost Map Records.
