it's been so hot and muggy
forest fires burn near the city
the sky turned pink and hazy
your hair turned red in the new light

what a sight
as things ignite

each day became a sunset
all of history holding its breath
let's swim, the water's warm yet
stay in long enough to forget

that sense of threat
so glad we met

does our beginning really have to start just as
we comprehend
we are witnessing
the end

fresh love has turned the world pink
or is that smoke on the brink
so much potential, I think
so much I'd rather not see burned
