Selected Ambient by Patrick Hickman

One Friday night after work I went out to dinner on a first date. The conversation got off to a slow start until we hit on the subject of music. Several common artist were discussed but Aphex Twin and our mutual love of the selected Ambient series is where we really got to talking. Years later when my wife and myself learned we were expecting, I wanted to record my own Ambient series for our soon to be little one. I started writing and recording as fast as I could to have a finished album for the nursery. Many of the songs have poor mixing, and audible artifacts scattered throughout like clicks, pops, and hiss as a result of the approaching deadline. At our 10 week ultrasound I learned that we were having twins but we could not expect to carry them to term. This crushed me, but I decided I needed to finish album for reasons I still don't understand.
These songs take on a new light with me today looking back. I'm still glad I made this. And listening to these has helped process grief on my own terms. Initially upon release I had no intention of sharing the story behind the album. But today I feel comfortable opening up. Creating art has always been a means of self soothing for myself, and I hope it can help you too.
