CommFused by paulfcook + Platinum Mind
CommFused is a 3-track collaboration with Platinum Mind - AKA Del Owusu. The starting point for each track involved Del sending me ideas in the form of riffs, tunes, and chord progressions. I built on these foundations, fleshing them out, sending them back, and getting revisions and more parts from Del until we were happy with the tracks.
Del has eclectic musical tastes, and I leant into his love of jazz, R&B and soul getting to flex musical muscles I don’t normally use. It got me to tap into my love of David Axelrod’s string and horn arrangements, Weather Report’s synth-sounds and the Steely Dan guitarists I have always loved (with a side order of George Benson).
Del is an incredible supporter of new music as head moderator and writer for the FreshOnTheNet website and through his Songbird Sessions radio show on Islington FM. We share a common friend in Neil March and Del first proposed working together while we were on the X thread for Neil’s TrustTheDoc radio show on Exile FM. I love the opportunity to drawer on someone else’s musical talent for inspiration so welcomed the collaboration with open arms.
