Picking up where his half of 2024’s “Split” with Mos Fet left off, “AD Conversions” is densely packed with turntablist tendencies and psychedelic deconstructions; as before on “Split,” all sounds originate strictly from CD’s, though no restrictions were placed on how the sounds were reworked and processed.

Hundreds of CDs were sampled for this full-length, with a focus on using undesirable music, discarded or donated to thrift stores and free libraries, to create subjectively “good” music. While some samples are stolen tongue-in-cheek from the source virtually wholesale, most are granulated, filtered, spliced and/or resampled beyond recognition.

A loose concept album about a mysterious DJ Yogi who steals sounds and rises to stardom with the help of his CDJ before meeting an inevitable demise, it’s also a commentary on sample-based music which celebrates, critiques and contributes to the fraught tradition of musical collage.
