Tahawus [© 1994 Dan Berggren / Berggren Music (BMI)]

The earth is made of water, the earth is made of stone.
It's shared by plants and animals, we do not live alone.
And if we work together, who knows what can be done,
As we rise above the timberline reaching for the sun.

*Tahawus - that's what the natives called it
Tahawus - the highest of the high
A mountain that could split the clouds,
the wind, the rain and time
And rise above the timberline

Some of us learn how to listen, to question and explore
How to do with what we've got, instead of seeking more
When to turn the other cheek, when to take a stand
When to rise above the timberline and lend a helping hand
*
There are men and there are women who stand above the rest
When clouds of gloom and sorrow put us to the test
They're strong and they're determined to see the light of day
They rise above the timberline - pointing to the way
*
There are clouds of hate and anger - there are clouds of poverty
There are those in clouds of sickness and those who are not free
We need the strength of mountains to see what we can do
To rise above the timberline and split a cloud or two
*
