Impractical Furniture by Eloine

Impractical Furniture was recorded in early 2024 at Day's home studio in San Pablo, California, shortly after completing a tour of the UK and Ireland with Germany-based sound artist Ypsmael. The album's five tracks were selected from 25 pieces which were largely recorded using a portable, collapsible tabletop instrument setup designed for the tour.

Bryan Day is a sound artist, musical instrument inventor, and conceptual artist based in the San Francisco bay area. Using scavenged electronics, repurposed mechanical components, and amplified materials, he re-imagines them into constructivist sound sculptures. Since the late-1990s, he has built over a hundred sound object devices, from amplified measuring tape, hacked radio transceivers to electromechanical installations using magnets, hard drives and pendulums. His recorded work ranges from noisy electroacoustic improvisation to drony minimalism and audio collage, which is showcased in his projects Euphotic, Collision Stories and Seeded Plain. Day has performed, taught workshops, and built sound installations across Europe, Asia and the Americas.
