An American ballad from the early 1800s. The form of the song may suggest it began as a sea shanty, and like many folk songs there are more than one version of the text… I first heard, and fell in love with it, in 1962 watching the film How the West was Won.
“Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you,
Away, you rolling river,

Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you,
Away, I’m bound away,
across the wide Missouri.”

Peter is a Canadian songwriter/composer, who has been writing songs since the late 60s.  His output is diverse revealing many influences - contemporary folk, musical theatre, chanson, the music of Brazil, jazz, classical & film music…

Peter now devotes most of his waking hours to writing, arranging and orchestrating music.
