Chase Me by Buen Chico

There’s a lot to be angry about at the present time, and for me, somewhere near the top of the list is the willingness of politicians with all different coloured rosettes to adopt the rhetoric of the far right on immigration. ‘Chase Me’ is a song about that. I wanted to say quite directly that if you want to criminalise people trying to come to live in the UK, then you also want people to drown in the English Channel, suffocate in the backs of lorries, or get swept out to sea while picking cockles at Morecombe Bay.

With the music, I spent a long time at the piano trying to write a beautiful, Tin Pan Alley kind of melody - I don’t know if I succeeded, but I did get quite worried that the song would end up sounding like ‘Somethin’ Stupid’ by Frank & Nancy Sinatra, which I counteracted by making the whole thing ridiculously upbeat.
