Trinity River

I was on the run
and now I'm on the run again
it all started when I was twelve or thirteen
I didn't know then what I was running from
just that it was gonna get me

They chased me down though two state lines
now I'm heading south, wet and sideways
I haven't figured though to what end
guess somehow they always get their way

belly up, eyes open wide

my wife, my second wife, stopped coming in

to see you behind the glass

Well I stopped at the river bank cause I had a memory there
so vivid I wanted to taste it again
I made my hand a cup and brought the river to my mouth
crouched down, got dizzy and fell in

I fell in to the trinity river
its body so deep and wide
I fell in to that old river
like a dumb sweet child

I fell in love three times in my life
and got married twice
