Selfish Man and Rich Man, Sick Man form the next pair of recordings in the collection. In terms of having an autumn theme, they deviate completely.

Selfish Man was recorded in October 2019 on the same day as Purple Leaves, etc. and so I’ve come to associate it with the rest from that day and that is how that one got included here. And then Rich Man, Sick Man has the same topic as Selfish Man, so that is how that got tagged on.

Both songs are commentary on Trump and both were thrown together very quickly—the former being completely improvised in the moment and the latter with little preparation that I can remember. As such, they are raw feelings—emotional meditations—and the lyrics are crude with no reworking or deeper contemplation.

Both are composite recordings—unfinished sketches, deemed not to be worth much in the moment, mostly forgotten, and then rediscovered with a new perspective of feeling like there was something worth preserving there, after all.
