Petrified by Red Wood

Petrified is the 4th and most ambitious E.P. done by Red Wood yet. After a hiatus from 2017 to 2022 the 6 piece Bay Area Punk & Post-Hardcore band returned to performing live shows and set out to write an E.P. “It took a while for us to re-learn how to write music with each other. The band had a new dynamic with new members and the experience we’ve gained individually since. We hit a bit of a block for a bit but things started to click when we added a third guitarist.” The band’s new line-up has 3 new members from when they went on hiatus.

The E.P. was recorded at the Atomic Garden in Oakland, California with Jack Shirley. “The foundation of the record was recorded with the instruments playing live together. There were a handful of overdubs and the vocals were tracked separately. We like to say the album was recorded live; we use that term loosely.” The E.P. features appearances of a Hammond organ, tambourine, and backing vocal tracks from their Guitarist Derek Nielson. The lyrics feature vocalist Anthony Diedrich Boyd’s abstract anxieties about everyday life, relationships, and the struggle of simply living in the modern world. The album is scheduled to be out September 27th marked with a release show in their home town of Santa Rosa. “We’re doing a small DIY show at a local taqueria. Honestly, I couldn’t think of a better way to do it.”
