"It had never been green as far as I knew. Only the soft, grayish white that, when touched to my face, brought indescribable contentment and satisfaction. Soon enough, it disappeared.
Years before, I had used small tools to tear out weeds and cut vegetables from the garden. Long string beans would grind in my teeth as I sat in the sun. In the distance, I could hear ice cubes clinking the sides of a glass. Earlier, a young girl saw me and began crying, very shaken and scared.
Years later, I remembered her cries as I watched it, white then, not green, erase from my life. Like the girl, knowing there was a reason, but not understanding why."
'Memory' was originally released on CD by the Crouton label in 2001 in an edition of 500 copies.
