this short piece on gamelan chimes is characteristic of much of the accidental music i make. it is what i call a matrix. meaning all the parts are really one part sped up or slowed down. when you layer these parts they act accidentally, but, because raising something an octave makes it twice as fast, or lowering it, twice as slow, not only are the pitches consonant but the tempos are too. so while a piece may sound chaotic there is an underlying symetry holding it together.

the chimes i used are tuned to just intonation, hence the title. oddly, depending on where it's said, the phrase "just now" means totally opposite things. neither of which is how i mean it here.

My music is created very simply using improvisation, chance procedures or accidental means. I also do a lot of field recording and sound experiments using natural forces to create sound. I used to be a singer/songwriter in a past life, but every caterpillar has its day...
