Adding some blue-eyed soul and rockabilly to the country genre, Charlie Rich’s 1960 set came from his time as a Sun session musician and veered more towards the Presley lip curl of the hit title track. His 70s fare gave him much bigger hits with ‘Behind Closed Doors’ and ‘The Most Beautiful Girl’, but these early recordings, including a slew of self-penned tunes are well worth a listen if you want to blast away the blues. Not our usual depressing country fare but more of a robust reasoning on relationships as demonstrated on the raucous ‘Break Up’.
