Sure, it’s a recreation of a moment lost in time, but it’s a great one. ‘Midnight Jamboree’ is a replica showcase radio show, the likes of which traversed the States in the late 50s bringing together a host of Grand Ol’ Opry performers taking time to frequent Tubb’s record store and record a few tunes. Featuring various artists. Kitty Wells, Webb Pierce, Patsy Cline and The Wilburn Brothers and, of course Ernest and his Texas Troubadours with wonderful fake applause. “The performances are suitable lean and convincing, and the material includes new songs by Justin Tubb, as well as new versions of old 1940s country standards,” enthused AllMusic. For a throwback to the nationwide sound that hummed through a thousand transistor radios and cumbersome room-engulfing sets, you find better than this.
