Landlocked by Russel the Leaf
The Beach Boys have forever been my favorite band, and I’ve given myself the pleasurable task of covering my favorite of their storied bootleg albums, ‘Landlocked’.
‘Landlocked’ is what the band sent to Warner Brothers as a follow up to ’20-20’, and what would eventually become the ‘Sunflower’ LP. Alternate versions have been passed around through fan communities online and physically handed off before that. Through research I’ve come to the conclusion that what I came across on Youtube many years ago in high school is not the definitive version of ‘Landlocked’. As a fanatic I found this to at first be a bit off-putting. How was I supposed to propose this cover album to be a true Beach Boys statement? Instead, I’ve started to look at it as such;
I fell in love with these songs in this sequence only because it was more Beach Boys music to hear. May this offering be that to you as well.
