Danny Boy grew up near me - he lived three houses down
but on the day that I got born - I knew I had to leave
But Danny Boy was the kind that could never say "no" - he did what he was told
He did what they expected of him and at nineteen
they sent my Danny Boy away

When the sky exploded one day and the men around him fell down in their tracks
He though how funny it was that a moment could turn your life around
It was then and there that he decided that he would never go home
Even if he could remember where home was
'cause home was never that town to my Danny Boy

When Danny Boy went away I always knew that he'd come back to me
but the day that I met him at the train he just wasn't the same
and it was then and there that I knew that he would never come home
