I don’t turn on the radio, or take a walk on the downtown streets
Can’t stand the sight of those sparkling lights circling the evergreens
People are counting down the nights till Santa comes around
Despite what they’re singing
I know he’s not bringing what my poor heart needs
Tis the season for laughter and joy and fireplaces all aglow
Once I was the life of the party, and you were beside me
Now I spend silent nights alone

I can’t help but feel just like the weather
A little bit colder than I like and gray
I’ve tried to forget but I remember
How it used to be, when it was you and me
In happier holidays

I close my eyes as the first snow falls, jingle bells ring and I recall
This time last year, you whispered in my ear ‘baby you’re all I want’
Tis the season for giving for pretty things wrapped up in ribbons and bows
But it’s hard to merry with these memories I carry
like a stocking full of coal
