This album contains proof of a series of “location specific” meetings between Brian Ruryk (guitar, detritus) and Colin Cudmore (detritus) that took place between August 2023 and September 2024 in Toronto, Canada. I’ll use the term “location specific” because the audio character of the meeting locations played a big role in the resulting music, basically the musicians interacted with the environmental sounds as well as each other, (maybe we can call these trio performances??). You got the inclusion of rush hour cars and pedestrians rubbernecking and honking on Dundas and Lansdowne (43.65035201744247, -79.43970763188818 named after the intersection of Dundas Street and Lansdowne Ave in Toronto Canada); the obliteration and drone of air carriers on YYZ (43.68406564138401, -79.66245693970961 named after the Pearson Airport in Toronto). You got the picture yet ?

A lot happened, a passersby stopped to chat; a security guard came and told them to leave; a dagger of traffic sound sliced through the action under a bridge at the McDonald Cartier Freeway (43.75202288827138, -79.40913588458267 also known as the notorious Ontario Highway 401); people even formally gathered at Bickford Park (43.66204592059733, -79.41994828809266) to watch them play.

This album however may be the end of an era for these types of meetings as the duo seems to have moved indoors, they are now playing in spaces that are contained by walls that create reverb with beer swilling etc. Well, this isn't entirely true…the release party for this thing happened under a bridge at 43.751339, -79.410134 in Toronto…. So who knows ?


%%30%30 is the pseudonym Colin Cudmore uses when playing with others. If he’s playing solo, maybe it’ll be as _53d8ZxP. He plays percussion because percussion can mean anything. He co-runs the music label / events organizer Ministry of Phonic Services, and is one half of the electroacoustic duo Wilderness Adventure Ride. His works have appeared at Electric Eclectics, The Music Gallery, Citadel + Compagnie, the docks of Trillium Park, the forests of Riverdale Park, and the Yorkville Rock
