I passed the exit
Every town here looks the same
Strip malls, city hall
And a bar that plays the college game

I’m always moving
But the questions just won’t shake
Beer swills, sleeping pills
Anything to numb the steady ache

But, you always get right to it
I can’t stand to face that endless ticking clock
Some nights are damn near perfect
Some nights are bitter words, or fears confirmed
With paths we can’t un-walk

I’m aimless downtown
Stare through large glass window panes
Bored clerks, office work
And longer ways to waste a day
It’s all an effort
When the meaning just don’t fit
Small talk, at a loss
Even love can end up counterfeit

But, you know I’m right there with you
I get tired of all my selfish, swirling thoughts
Some days I go down swinging
Some days the cloud’s so dark I’m half convinced
I’ll never shake it off

And I don’t want to wake up now and see
I’ve been trudging nowhere fast asleep
Find me on a cliff I’m gonna leap
Keep looking for the exits
But I only see what’s right in front of me
