Widowers Waltz from Take Flight by The Celestophones

One of the newer songs on the album, Widowers Waltz was written in 2021 and might have been destined for inclusion on one of my solo albums except that I realized that Take Flight had no ballads on it and that it’s always good to vary things a bit. Besides, all of the great bands that influenced Power-Pop had their mellower, more melodic side from The Beatles, Kinks et al. to Badfinger, Big Star, Cheap Trick and their successors. An epic pop ballad about two middle-aged widowers, Widowers Waltz sounds, upon further reflection, like one of the greatest songs Jim Steinman of Meat Loaf fame never wrote.

Sean Peever is one of the must-see performers on the Toronto singer-songwriter scene.
