Grows where nobody wants it
Tilted and twisted, not pretty and formal
I love it possibly more

The heart-shaped leaves
Sweet smelling blossoms
I cannot tell a lie

But what about the feisty boxelder?
Grows when nobody wants it
Black sheep of maples, the unwanted maple
I love it possibly more

Everyone loves a graceful elm
I must admit, so do I
Once so lovely on the boulevard
Became a sight less seen

But what about the cunning boxelder?
Grows however it wants to
Does not respond to human desire
