Null from Null&Void by Segadeath

Miners and scrappers employed by the four ruling tetrarchs were too greedy and delved too deep into the plains of strife. They stumbled upon the dead husk of a long forgotten, ancient god whose name remains only in the mind of a select few obscure occultists. There, trapped for eons hid the god’s essence. As the scrappers pierced the husk, it seeped out of the ground and began slithering across the land, infecting and mutating people as it spread further and further. Recognizing the potential of these new powers, the four tetrarchs sought to control this essence that they called: the Null. Two succeeded and two failed, leaving the null free to not only corrupt the tetrarch’s body and mind but all that they held dominion over. The tetrarchies of Midway and Void fell to the null completely, leaving the continent of Rusak almost completely under the influence of the Null. Only the temple of the Black Rose remained mysteriously free of corruption. The tetrarchs holding rule in the tetrarchies of Fell and Surabi managed to bend the force of the Null to their will and save the continent of Dibuat from total corruption. They used the Null to increase their stranglehold on the general populace.
Now, the daily incursions by Null afflicted creatures from Rusak are secretly fought off by specially trained soldiers and the general populace remains unaware of the scale. It however puts the continent in a permanent shadow war and puts great strain on their resources. Food and raw materials are hard to come by and exceedingly expensive. The common folk of Kekosongan live in squalor while the tetrarchs and ruling council live in luxury.
