These quotes by Sir David Attenborough represent some of the thoughts behind the conceptualization of this album. (So much so that I even used certain words as titles.)

GONELAND is a new sound study that incorporates found sounds and shoddy field recordings that I've made over the past year. My intent was to use patterned, looping sound and granular synthesis in order to establish a repetitious yet improvisational, machinelike experience throughout. An assembly of abstract imperfections. Glitched industrial noises and factory pulses, sounds of daily monotonous tasks and alarms, distorted voices, mutated animal calls—all trapped in static, steam, and automation. Polluted. Disoriented.

Organizing these tracks was difficult, as I feel they could sit a number of different ways together. I would say this is the first release where I don't feel the order of the tracks is terribly relevant. Headphones are strongly recommended for the (intentional) imbalance of sounds, and so that you may hear the small pops, abrupt cuts, and all human errors more clearly.

FOUND SOUNDS INCLUDE: sounds of people working, paper ripping, scraping sounds, a refrigerator, and an audio clip from the film “La Grande Bellezza” (The Great Beauty) by Paolo Sorrentino.

FIELD RECORDINGS INCLUDE: recordings of different nature sounds, people working various jobs, a person driving through the streets of Philadelphia on a completely flat tire (which was recorded by a friend), rain on a car roof, an emergency room visit, a beehive, various machines and technological instruments, radio interference in the car, as well as miscellaneous driving sounds.
