Dancing Waves by Seshtan

Dancing Waves is a performance composed for the opening of the Erthe Runway Show ’24.

Drawing inspiration from ocean waves, I used ambient elements like shimmering effects, deep reverbs, and delayed textures to evoke a sense of vivid wonder, like oceanic overtones that shift with the tides. Sounds are looped and stretched over time, played at different speeds and manipulated through various effect chains, while reverse effects are used to represent the movements of a sea tide.

Ambient sounds and loops are created live using the Ocean Machine pedal by Moer. I used the granular delay/pitch-shifting Particle pedal from Red Panda to break signals into small grains, then rearranged and shifted them in real time using granular synthesis techniques. Notes are added and dropped within repeated patterns, creating an effect that is both rhythmically insistent and liquefied, enveloping the space in waves of evocative melodies, overtones, and electro-acoustic effects.
