CHICAGO LOOPS by D Bayne and guests (Charity release for The Night Ministry, Chicago)

Chicago Loops is built around a collection of field recordings made within the Chicago downtown central business district (known colloquially as the Loop) in 2013. These field recordings incidentally offer an otherwise lost sonic documentation of the daily activity in downtown Chicago during the pre-COVID era. The specific location of each field recording suggests a different composition through its sonic timbres and types of sounds. The narrative of each composition is determined by the specific series of sonic events and transitions which occur within each field recording. Each composition is written as a duet (or in one case, a trio) paired with the original, unadulterated field recording, capturing a specific location, on one date, at one time in the Chicago Loop. The album includes of the complete set of compositions where each one is paired with a different member of the broader Chicago improvised and creative music community.

Acknowledging the depth of challenges many citizens of our city are experiencing, this is a charity release for The Night Ministry, a nonprofit providing support both within the Chicago Loop and in the surrounding neighborhoods. The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based organization whose mission is to provide human connection, housing support, and health care to those who are unhoused or experiencing poverty. Presenting this fundraising opportunity with compassion and solidarity to those in need or in crisis, our sentiment is best expressed through The Night Ministry’s mission statement: With an open heart, we compassionately accept each individual as they are and work alongside them to advocate for their immediate physical, emotional, and social needs while affirming our shared humanity. All proceeds of this album go to an unrestricted donation to The Night Ministry in support of its mission and goals.
