SUNCHILD EP by SIJI
Two and a half decades ago I left my ancestral home of Lagos, Nigeria for greener pastures in the west, settling first in the UK and much later the United States. I have recently undertaken tentative steps to revisit my childhood past over the last couple of years in a bid to realign self and to forge closer ties with folks that mean the world to me and a country that continues to nurture and inspire me.
Sunchild (EP) forms part of an entire album of material I wrote and recorded over the course of my repeated trips back to Lagos. In a form of catharsis, I got to relive the many highs and lows of my journey in song.
It's been a quite a revealing journey and one I'm musically richer for. Over time I've come to learn that 'Home' lies within oneself.
