Parakeet by Merzbow

Since the year before last, I have been working on producing a CD series titled “Nine Studies of Ephemeral Resonance” which will consist of a total of nine volumes once completed from the Italian label Urashima. Starting from Vol. 5, I have incorporated piano sounds, which were performed using an app, sampled, and then modulated through granular synthesis on a computer. I have recorded several works in this style, with the latest being Parakeet Part 1.
In contrast, Parakeet Part 2 is entirely composed of analog sound sources, created by mixing multiple live performances.

The title Parakeet is inspired by the rose-ringed parakeet that recently started visiting my garden.

一昨年来、イタリアのレーベル Urashimaから完成すれば全9枚組になる「NineStudies of Ephemeral Resonance」というシリーズのCD制作を進めている。このVol.5からピアノの音源を入れている。
これはアプリで演奏したピアノの音をサンプリングしてコンピュータのグラニュラー・シンセシスで変調させている。

全体としてはピアノだけではなく、打楽器や多種多様なノイズもグラニュラー・シンセシスにかけているが、それらの音にノイズの生演奏をミックスしている。こうしたスタイルでいくつか録音したが、その最新のものがParakeet Part 1である。
一方、Parakeet Part 2は全てアナログ音源で制作している。こちらは複数の生演奏をミックスしている。

Parakeetというタイトルは最近我が家の庭にやって来たワカケホンセイインコに因む。
