Platform Blue by Slumberjazz

We hole up beneath Grand Central, in a retrofitted subway car, when the city above finally hushes – usually between 2:47 and 4:13 AM. That's when the walls thin, and you start to hear things: fragments of old conversations, the scuff of shoes from generations ago, train announcements long forgotten. It's what we call 'temporal bleeding,' and our new album, *Platform Blue*, is our way of trying to make sense of it all. It’s less a collection of songs and more a journey, a cinematic bebop film noir soundtrack for movies that only play in your head.

You’ll feel it from the first breath – a muted tenor saxophone drifting through those vast, echoing spaces, pulling you into that liminal state between sleep and something... else. Then the piano starts, spiraling out, like catching whispers from ghosts who used to wait on these very platforms. We let the notes stretch, bend, sometimes even spiral backward while the drums tick stubbornly forward, just like memory itself – warped, disorienting, but strangely compelling. It’s us digging through the anxieties of bygone travelers, translating those old train schedules from our worn notebooks into chord progressions, letting the rhythm pulse with phantom footsteps.

And then it hits, this deep ache from The Archivist's tenor, carrying the weight of all those unfulfilled promises, like a eulogy for lives we never knew. But it’s not just sorrow. It all builds to this one point, a crystalline piano note that just... sustains, impossibly long, like the tunnels themselves are holding their breath. As the session winds down around 4:13 AM, there's a bittersweet calm, the reluctant return to our everyday world. But the echoes linger. We put it all through these vintage tube preamps and modified reel-to-reel machines, letting the imperfections, the controlled instabilities, mirror how human memory distorts recollection. It’s all part of our concept of 'beautiful decay' – how these abandoned places hold onto emotional residue. Every hiss of analog tape, every found percussion beat from subway debris, it's all part of this dialogue with what’s left behind. *Platform Blue* is our meditation on existence, on finding meaning in the shifting silences of history, and maybe, finding some comfort in realizing we’re all part of this endless procession, passing through corridors that have seen it all.
