OVO emerged out of a flurry of ideas in March 2018. Thankfully I had some kind friends who were willing to help me realize those ideas. It was a difficult day of shooting in the mud and rain but we persevered and were able to get the shots needed. After filming and editing was over, it took 9 months to create the soundtrack.
I learned a lot on this project. Making music to fit an image is hard. Explaining what you want someone to do is really hard even if you can imagine it perfectly in your mind. Recording simulated foot steps on mud is hard. Finishing what you set out to accomplish even though you’d rather be doing anything else is hard! Another thing I learned is it often costs more money to submit your film to festivals than it does to make it. I was lucky that some festivals were willing to show my film (Chicago International Film Festival and Houston International Film Festival) and I received some very kind encouragement (as well as plenty of rejection).
This was an important step for me and it was one of the most mentally and creatively exhausting things I’ve ever done (mostly because I didn’t know what I was doing). I’m proud of my work and am extremely grateful to everyone who helped me make it. I hope you enjoy this soundtrack and enjoy the Film.
