If music is a celebration, then this record is certainly a reflection of mine.
2025 marks 20 years since I began my musical journey in earnest: taking the first steps to liberate my sketches from my bedroom, quickly being taken under the wing of my early montors Simon S and Deborah Jordan, starting along the path that has lead me to where I am today.
This record, more than any other I’ve created, is a reflection of every lesson I’ve learned from that point until now. Mood, approach, tempo, structure, influence…plenty of mistakes, both intentional and unintentional: it’s all reflected in the songs on this album.
It’s in the choice of collaborators too. My relationship with many of the featured artists date back to the genesis of Mecca:83 as an alias. Some are people I count amongst my closest friends. Others, quite simply are legends, reflecting my earliest influences and the reason I started this thing in the first place. Not to mention Joel JDK’s cover art: the visual counterpoint which is as much a part of what Mecca:83 is as the music itself.
I once heard a journalist describe Lex de Kalhex's music (you'll find him on track 9) as "sophisticated simplicity." That's the most succinct summary I've heard of what I aspire to musically: simple enough to keep heads nodding, complex enough to take listeners on a journey. I hope you feel that intent when listening through the 16 tracks on this album.

20 years is a long time by anyone’s measure. I’m grateful to still being doing something I love, with artists I respect, for people like you.
