I was a singer before the fire,
before these walls came down crashing.
I was a tenor in the choir,
and around us all, the flames kept licking.
and she was trembling as I held her hand,
but we kept singing.

She kept a pen by her bed,
she would wake up and write down the dreams that she’d had.
No one knew her as well as she knew herself.
She kept a knife by her bed
in case someone broke in, she could protect herself,
but even she couldn’t dream up a death like this.
