Donna by Sophie Noel
Logan and I wrote this song over facetime in one afternoon’s session. It was the spring of 2020 and I was living in a little log cabin in Dawson City, isolating for the first time.
This song presents itself like a plea: the subject of the song, Donna, consumes each day to the rind and looks for more, while the narrator begs her to slow down. It could be viewed as a conversation between two lovers: two people searching for a different kind of meaning, and both coming up empty handed. At its heart, though, this song is an internal conversation. One side of the narrator is searching for contentment, while the other side is insatiably hungry.
