Lowercase music is an experimental genre where the sound is extremely quiet, minimal, and often focused on tiny, overlooked noises - like the hum of an electrical cable, the scratch of paper, or the sound of a breath.
It was named and popularized by sound artist Steve Roden in the early 2000's. He described it as "the opposite of the capital letters - the opposite of being loud" and said it's about "paying attention to small sounds, quiet sounds, and giving them the same weight as more traditionally 'important' ones."
