I've lived like a hermit and starved myself
seen visions of the end
I've looked to the skies with dark and hollow eyes
alone in the world without a friend
but now I'm captain of a sinking ship
and how you may ask why
well if I've never really lived then how could I forgive
all of us condemned to die

climb aboard the new titanic
where the bands play all night long
we don't know when it will all have to end

through the waves we plow ahead
the din it echos away
with nothing in sight, just the silence of the night
turn back I'll never say
musicians are all doing time
the poets are all damned
artists have a curse while writers make a hearse
of the lifeboats they have crammed

or have you had your fill
well out on the deck there's a man quite a wreck
who's purging of them still
