Chaos theory predicts that while the laws of physics are deterministic, there are events and patterns in nature that never exactly repeat because extremely small differences in starting conditions can lead to widely differing outcomes.

The butterfly effect, an underlying principle of chaos, describes how a small change in one state of a system can result in large differences in a later state. A butterfly flapping its wings in Texas can cause a tornado in Brazil!.
