Credits
released December 31, 2012
Subliminal Sea is inspired by creatures and landscapes of the Precambrian era.
Sleeping Bubbles and Voyage were arranged spontaneously in one take directly from an analog mixer to a digital recorder. These tracks feature the TR-808, TB-303, SH-101, Arp Odyssey, an Ensonig Mirage, and an Akai S1000.
Sunken Gardens and Moon Jellies were done completely inside of hardware samplers, an Akai S5000 (Moon Jellies), and an Akai S2000 (Sunken Gardens).
Frozen in Time and Star Message were created with hardware instruments and arranged in NI Maschine, and Sand Shield and Tikal were also done in NI Maschine, but use a mix of software instruments and hardware.
Sand Shield and Tikal are structured using the Fibonacci Sequence, and Tikal's rhythm parts themselves are written using this, including when a new rhythmic element is introduced, and how many times the instrument is struck. Sand Shield slowly builds to a section that includes all of the elements of the track, while Tikal starts off very heavily rhythmic, and ends up purely tonal.
Tikal is inspired by Oliver Lieb's Ambush album, and the form of Sunken Gardens is derived from the Alien Mutation Song Exotic Ocean.
All tracks were recorded and produced between September and December 2012 by Zachary Brown
