Stellar Plates from Snowdrops by Sven Wunder

When the temperature drops and water droplets freeze, they fall through the atmosphere as snow. The shape of the snowflake is determined by the temperature and the humidity. When there isn’t enough moisture in the sky to help them crystallise and form the limb of a star, the stellar plate snowflakes form with six broad arms that often are decorated with amazingly symmetrical markings and form a star-like shape.

Sven Wunder is portraying these plate-like crystals reflected by the winter Sun in this jazz number for piano and small orchestra.
