Bedford Mall by Swofford

Premise: Fusing Vaporwave as Pop, or alternatively, A Love Letter To a Shopping Mall from c. 1989

The Standard Album has 16 tracks (25 on Deluxe), ranging between full vaporwave and 80s inspired synthpop. Spare electric guitar, all music is synthesized. The album is organized loosely by time of day, starting in the morning, and ending at night. Each track has a story, and I hope you enjoy :)

ALBUM STORY:

I started making music on July 24, 2019. I had no concept of scales, melody, harmony, rhythm or song structure. Here, one year later, I am announcing my triumph over the elements of music by releasing my Album, Bedford Mall.

Through the fall of 2019 I began work on a lo-fi EP of Walking-Tempo chillwave tracks. I made two tracks, and then shelved the idea. In November, I discovered a love for Pop Music listening to the likes of Taylor Swift and Kim Petras. In January, I began a similar descent into vaporwave music, synthesized music wearing a corporate jacket, drenched in 1980s nostalgia.

On February 7, I wrote the first song, "Going Up." It was still not apparent to me that I would be making an album, but I had a song that was a musical portmanteau of pop and vaporwave. I explored this grey area of genre and produced more songs, until the Album Concept came to me.

In April, while spending most of my time at my home, I discovered stock/aitken/waterman, a production trio of late 1980s pop that heavily influenced more of the dance-leaning tracks on the album.

I finished the Demo Album on May 16. It had only 12 tracks, and almost all of them were redone for the album.

Recording For the Album was finished on July 10.
