Vardo is a tiny Norwegian island that is located at the furthest northeastern tip of the country. This piece was inspired by an article I read about the island which described how Vardo went from a being a fishing hub to slowly becoming overtaken by US operations to spy on Russia. The spies tell locals they are tourists and "bird-watchers" which gave the strange feeling of life on the island supposedly staying the same while it was really completely changing without the locals having any say in the matter.
The composition portrays that feeling with a melody that is staying constant while everything is changing underneath it.
