Last night, I met a waitress
She was oh so kind and she treated me well

How was I to know that she was under age
It didn’t matter some how
It was the way in which she looked at me
Made me feel as if it were years ago

We would wait for the beach to freeze
To spend our winters there
And when the cops would come, we would flee
Those were many years ago

Packed tight like a gang of thieves
We would go into the night air
To the grocery store to rob the rich
Those were oh so many years ago

Years ago, I was seventeen
A knight with an Oldsmobile stead
And when I think about the things I’ve seen
How I wish that it were years ago

Just as there’s having too little
There’s knowin’ too much
And I wish that I were still naïve
Like I was so many years ago

It was the evening of the 10th of September
That fall day in 2001
It was a night of peace that I’ll always remember
