Nighthawks by Teen Getaway

More extensive liner notes to come, but I just wanted to get this out there for a few reasons:

1. Two of the crucial components to this album getting made — Spencer C. Shoults and the recently departed Nick Punch — are no longer with us.

2. We’ve never made this available digitally. The reasons are both dumb and complicated. But here we are.

3. Bandcamp is waving all fees today — June 5th, 2020 — which means we get 100% of the revenue. We wanna pay it forward and donate 100% of the money made to the Birmingham Bail Fund… Because Black Lives Matter — and we want to support our friends fighting for justice on the frontlines.

Our 2nd EP, we recorded Nighthawks on our own. We spent an afternoon tracking drums in Janet’s living room. Spin got ‘em all in a take or two. No click track. We did the rest at Spin’s apartment, making the most of a couple of big rooms and a long hallway.

We mixed the record and did some additional recording at Boutwell Studios with Nick Punch.

Though it’s not technically perfect, it really does capture the bashy heart of our music. We should’ve recorded way more songs at this point — 2008 — and LO did we try — but these 5 songs perfectly distill the band up to that point. Distance has made me appreciate it even more.

Thank you all for the love and support over the years. We miss you, too.

And love forever to Spencer C. Shoults and Nick Punch. Two lovely, amazingly talented souls who have left us way too soon.
