Overgrowth by Ten Pound Snail

she sinks her thumbs into the ground
and lets the worms escape
with a taste for the surreal
but without a dinner plate
the dying tree is bleeding sap
from where she carved her name
my eyes as wide as ever
like nothing here has changed
I'm growing flowers from my wings
I'm aching in my joints from too much
dancing in the rain

white teeth in the attic
in the clearest of air
are growing brittle with time
and beyond repair
if my most prized possession
is to fall out of line
I won't mind

I take great pride in us placing this
weight upon my chest so that we
sink right through the mud
and form our comfy little nest
who do you think you're trying to
protect from the unknown
it's all I've ever wanted to make
everywhere my home
and now I'm slowly fading into black
we'll absorb into each other
words will fail to bring us back
